Private pilot certificate program

In order to meet the private pilot requirements, students of the private pilot certificate program must complete the 6 credit hours of these two courses (3 credit hours each):

AVM 120 Primary Flight Theory and Training, Solo: Learn both the theory and the practical skills you need to fly solo in a single-engine, land-class plane.

AVM 121 Primary Flight Theory and Training, PPL: Become fully prepared to take the FAA written, oral and flight training exams needed to obtain your PPL—private pilot license. Requirements for the Private Pilot Certificate include:

  • Obtaining a visa if you are an international student
  • Passing a medical exam
  • Being at least 17 years old when you complete the certification

Private pilot careers

If you decide to pursue a career in aviation, your private pilot certificate is the first step in doing that. As a private pilot, you can fly your friends and family around the county, state or country.

Alumni of the Burton D. Morgan College of Aeronautics have used their new ratings and certificates to gain employment with nationally known companies including:

  • Spirit Airlines
  • Delta Airlines
  • United Airlines
  • American Airlines
  • Atlanta Hartsfield airport authority
  • Opa Locka airport authority
  • CommutAir
  • Republic Airways

Or earn your B.S. in aviation management and qualify for specialist, coordinator and management roles, such as:

  • Air traffic controller
  • Private or commercial pilot
  • Information or HR specialist
  • Corporate manager
  • Airport manager
