Scott Erdmann ’06 makes a play working with the Dallas Cowboys

Scott Erdmann ’06 couples his business expertise with his love for football as the manager of corporate partnerships for the Dallas Cowboys football team.

Originally from Leominster, Massachusetts, Erdmann was interested in sports from a young age and participated in basketball and football his entire childhood. “As a kid, I was always outside,” said Erdmann. “My main hobbies were golf, snowboarding and tennis, all of which I still do today.”

When the season permits, Erdmann is still an avid snowboarder, “Growing up in Massachusetts we would go a lot during the winters. Now living in Texas, we like to go to places in Colorado and Utah like Breckenridge, Telluride and Vail.”

When it came time to choose a college, Erdmann knew he wanted to be at Lynn after his first visit, “I grew up in the Northeast and did not want to be in the cold while going to school. The moment I visited Lynn, I was sold. There was no way I would go to school in the snow when I could be at a gorgeous university only five minutes from the beach.”

At Lynn, Erdmann took advantage of many opportunities, including the university’s career fair, which helped him land his first job in 2006. At the Florida Panthers, a National Hockey League (NHL) team, he put his business skills to work in sales and never looked back. For years, he climbed through ranks in the Premium Sales Department until he earned a position as the associate director of Premium Sales for Florida Atlantic University. There, he helped the Owls open its new football stadium.

In 2011, Erdmann received an exciting offer through a Florida Panthers connection to work in sales for the Dallas Cowboys. “I couldn’t believe I was getting the opportunity to work for the most recognizable franchise in sports,” said Erdmann. “It was an incredible feeling, and I accepted the job right away, packed my car and drove to Texas.”

Since then Erdmann has become the manager of Corporate Partnerships where he is responsible for selling marketing partnerships across all business lines including Dallas Cowboys intellectual property rights, online, print, radio, signage, social media, television, and events and promotions to various companies.

Each year NFL teams think of new ways to engage their fans locally and nationally. To keep their fans excited every year, the Dallas Cowboys have built a 90-acre development called The Star that houses the Dallas Cowboys Headquarters and allows fans to engage with the team through private tours and special events.

“I am extremely thankful for my opportunity and the growth I have had within the organization.”  Erdman said about his working for the most valued sports club in the world. He added, “Now that I have been in Texas for six years, I proudly own a pair of cowboy boots and drive a truck.”

Erdmann still looks back fondly upon his time at Lynn and credits his successes to the lessons he learned as a student. “I really respect my Lynn professors for the real world experience they brought into the classroom,” he said.  “Through those experiences, I learned what it would take to get where I wanted in life. I also loved the diversity of the students. Meeting people from all over the world really helped me understand how to relate to others, which is necessary in my line of business.”

To current business majors at Lynn, Erdmann says the best tool to have is people skills. “Being able to develop relationships is key and having a strong work ethic will help you to stand out and be recognized.”
